The length of your laptop battery life will greatly depend on how you take care of your battery and your laptop. Of course, we all would want to have our laptop up and running as long as possible – after all, they do not come cheap. To do so, you have to instill some habits or changes in the way you use your laptop.
No matter how well you take care of your laptop battery, it will eventually diminish its capacity as it sees more years of usage. This is true no matter what laptop brand you use whether you have a Batterie Asus K756U or a MacBook.
But there are still some things that you can do to make the best out of your laptop battery. Here is a quick list of some of the best ways to keep your laptop battery running as long as it can:
Charge your laptop battery as high as 80% but not as low as 40%
Keeping your laptop at 100% or draining it to 0 before charging it actually shortens your battery life. A battery that is always charged to extremes can be charged 300 to 500 times. However, a battery that is charged at only 80% can actually go through 850 to 1500 more charges.
Don’t let your laptop run hot while plugged in
If the first tip makes you uneasy and you know you use your laptop a lot, it is okay to keep your laptop plugged in and let it reach 100%. Once your battery hits 100%, the laptop stops charging the battery and the power from your outlet actually goes to the system instead. What makes it worse is letting it charge from less than 40% to 100%.
Now, if you work with your laptop plugged in all the time, you should be conscious of its temperature. You should not let it run hot. Serious heat exposure plus a battery at maximum capacity can eat up a whole portion of your battery life and can damage your battery.
Keep your laptop ventilated and cool
In regards to the tip above, you should keep your laptop ventilated and cool. The compact size of a laptop makes them unable to accommodate cooling fans so they get hot easily. Invest in a laptop stand with a cooling fan if you do not have air conditioning in the room. Make sure you do not keep it on your thighs, pillows, or bed. Also, you should ensure that nothing is blocking the vents of your laptop.
Replace your laptop battery
Did you know that it is best to replace your battery after its capacity drops below 80%? Once a battery’s health reaches this point, its internal resistance will start to build up and you will actually notice that it takes longer to charge it to its full capacity. Everything will go downhill from there.
Luckily, a battery is one of the easiest things to replace on a laptop. Unlike before, it does not take a long time to get a replacement.
